Acrylic
Acrylic can be called the medium
of the modern
age because it is very fast, just as our times. Because of
its
fast drying nature it is very difficult to handle while working on fine
gradations and finer details. So detailed works are rare in
acrylic. But from the collector’s point of view certainly
there
are more advantages than disadvantages. The medium is really
lightfast. It lasts longer than any other medium including
oil
paint. It is not necessary to frame acrylic painting under
glass. Acrylic paints are highly tolerant to harsh weather
conditions. Cleaning acrylic painting is very easy. It can
even
be washed with plain water and soap.
Acrylic paints are made from pigment, water and an acrylic binder, which forms a hard, clear film as the water evaporates. It is this transparent film, reflecting light from the pigment inside it that gives acrylic color its brilliance. The film is more flexible than that of other media and is unlikely to crack. It is a versatile medium with lot of possibilities in spite of its limitations in handling
